River Run Racehorse Retirement is proud to welcome our first official retiree to the farm, Dr. J Hanover. A standout in harness racing, he now begins a new chapter where he will be cared for, respected, and given the space to simply be a horse again. His arrival marks a meaningful milestone for our organization and for the mission we are building together.
Dr. J Hanover’s racing career reflects the kind of talent and heart that defines top-level harness racing. He is sired by the legendary Somebeachsomewhere, one of the most influential stallions in modern Standardbred history.
Throughout his time on the track, Dr. J Hanover was trained by Tony Alagna and the late Donna Lee, both respected names in the industry who helped shape his development and success.
A multiple stakes competitor, Dr. J Hanover earned over one million dollars in career earnings, competing at the highest levels of the sport and proving himself as a consistent and competitive presence on the track.
Now at River Run, Dr. J Hanover steps into a completely different kind of life. No starting gate. No race schedule. No pressure to perform. Just turnout, routine care, and the freedom to settle into life as a horse should.
This transition is what River Run was built for. Horses like Dr. J Hanover give us the opportunity to provide not only safety, but dignity after the spotlight fades. Every day forward is focused on comfort, health, and peace.
Welcoming Dr. J Hanover as our first official retiree is more than a moment of celebration. It represents the beginning of a promise being put into action. River Run was founded on the belief that every racehorse deserves a secure and compassionate retirement, and now that belief is becoming reality.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this mission and helped make this step possible. Dr. J Hanover is the first of many who will find their way here, each with a story worth honoring and a future worth protecting.
Welcome home, Dr. J Hanover.
