River Run Racehorse Retirment

They Gave Everything on the Track. Now It's Our Turn.

Second Chances

We provide retired racehorses with a safe, loving environment where they can heal and live with dignity.

Peaceful Retirement

Our horses enjoy open space, proper care, and the quiet life they deserve after years on the track.

Care You Can Trust

From daily care to medical support, every horse receives the attention and compassion they need to thrive.

River Run provides retired and un-raceable horses with a dignified path forward.

They gave us their speed, their strength, and their heart. When the races end, too many are left without a path forward.

River Run exists to change that, providing retired racehorses with a life of peace, care, and dignity beyond the track.

Give them the ending they earned and the beginning they deserve.

River Run's First Official Retiree

We are excited to welcome River Run’s first official retiree, Dr. J Hanover. A standout in harness racing, he now begins a new chapter where he will be cared for and given the space to simply be a horse. His arrival marks an important milestone for River Run.

A Legacy That Will Still Run Strong

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our friend 38 Special due to colic. A horse who gave his all on the track and later found his way back to safety, he held a special place in the heart of River Run and in its very foundation.

In his honor, we are launching CELEBRATE 38, a 38-day campaign to continue his legacy by helping other horses find their way into safe and meaningful retirement.

Fiorello Stars in Sunshine Stakes

Joe Fiorello, curator of River Run Racehorse Retirement, made a triumphant
first-time drive for purse money, guiding Prairie Puma to victory in the Sunshine Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village in Delray Beach, FL.

After years of study, hands-on work, and recovery involvement, his victory symbolizes a powerful new beginning for both man and
horse.

Their Racing Days End. Their Needs Do Not.

Retirement is not the end of care. It is the beginning of a new responsibility.

Most racehorses retire young, often with many years of life still ahead of them. After a demanding racing career, many require time, patience, and specialized care to transition into a healthy and peaceful retirement.

Without proper aftercare, their future can be uncertain. At River Run, we ensure every horse receives the support they need to recover physically, adjust emotionally, and thrive in a safe environment. We are committed to providing lifelong care that honors what these horses have given on the track.Type your paragraph here

Every horse deserves more than an ending. They deserve care, dignity, and a life beyond the finish line.

Rehabilitation & Recovery

Horses often need time to heal from the physical demands of racing. We provide rest, rehabilitation, and gradual recovery tailored to each horse’s needs.

Veterinary & Medical Care

Routine exams, injury treatment, and ongoing medical support ensure every horse remains healthy and comfortable throughout retirement.

Nutrition & Daily Care

Proper feed, supplements, and consistent daily care help restore strength and maintain long-term wellness.

Emotional Transition & Safe Environment

Retired racehorses need time to decompress from the track. Calm environments, social interaction, and patient handling help them adjust to a peaceful life.
